FAQ

Frequently asked
questions.

Everything you need to know before hitting record.

Does it work with any Chrome tab? +
Yes. It captures the audio output of any active Chrome tab: YouTube, Spotify, Twitch, Google Meet, SoundCloud, web apps, and more.
Is it free? +
Completely free. No subscription, no freemium tier, no account required. Install it and start recording immediately.
Is my audio sent to any server? +
Never. All recording, processing, and storage happens on your device. There are zero network calls: the extension contains no telemetry and makes no external requests of any kind.
What export formats are supported? +
Three formats: WebM (smallest file size), WAV (lossless PCM, ideal for DAW import), and MP3 (up to 320 kbps via the bundled LAME encoder, with ID3v2.3 metadata).
What happens if I close the popup while recording? +
Recording continues uninterrupted. The audio engine runs inside a persistent offscreen document managed by the service worker: independent of the popup's lifecycle.
Does it record my microphone? +
No. It exclusively captures the audio output of the selected Chrome tab via Chrome's tabCapture API. Microphone input is not supported by design.
What's the Floating Player? +
A compact draggable widget injected directly into the active tab's page. It exposes REC, STREAM, gain control, and real-time visualizers. It syncs bidirectionally with the main popup and persists when the popup is closed.
Can I edit a recording after capturing it? +
Yes. The built-in editor supports: trim, cut, fade in/out (linear · exponential · logarithmic), silence detection, time-stretch with pitch preservation, zoom/pan, and 20-step undo/redo.
How much storage do recordings use? +
Recordings are stored in the browser's IndexedDB: typically several gigabytes are available. The library panel displays a live storage usage bar so you always know where you stand.
Which Chrome version is required? +
Chrome 116 or later (requires Manifest V3 and the Offscreen Documents API). Also works on Chromium-based browsers: Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Arc.
